The Founder's Story
Nha Lua was co-founded by Vo Ngoc Vu and Doan Thi Kim Ngan – two people deeply connected to Hoi An, to silk, and to each other through a shared mission: bringing the essence of Vietnamese mulberry silk into modern life.
Kim Ngan co-founder in charge of creative direction and product design has poured her heart into every design. During the COVID-19 lockdown, rather than waiting things out, she got to work creating the first “áo yếm” (traditional halter tops) and silk products from her hometown of Hoi An.
Vo Ngoc Vu an engineer who once worked at a foreign company chose to leave his “comfort zone” to stand by his life partner. He oversees strategy, operations, and finance. Together, the two share one guiding philosophy: seriousness and respect for beauty.
The first products “Ao Yem” (halter tops) and silk pants — quickly sparked a new trend in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Customers called Nha Lua the “pioneer” of the “Ao Yem” paired with silk pants trend. The brand has since expanded into áo dài, silk dresses, silk scarves, matching mother-daughter áo dài sets, and ceremonial attire.
